At the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation’s (SCO) Trade Ministers’ Meeting in Vladivostok on 6 September 2025, Additional Secretary Amitabh Kumar reaffirmed India’s commitment to a WTO-centred multilateral trading system. Emphasizing inclusion, he advocated for permanent solutions on Public Stockholding (PSH), effective Special & Differential Treatment (S&DT), and restoration of the full WTO dispute settlement system. India spotlighted the AVGC (Animation, Visual Effects, Gaming, and Comics) sector as a key engine for export-driven inclusive growth, citing initiatives like WAVES 2025, WaveX startup funding, and the India Cine Hub alongside co-production agreements and creative talent platforms.
India also advocated for diversified, resilient, and interconnected supply chains across the SCO region, stressing e-commerce cooperation, interoperable logistics, and MSME participation in global value chains. It appreciated Russia’s role under SCO’s current chair and pledged further cooperation under Tajikistan’s leadership in 2026–27.
Relevant question for policy stakeholders: How can India leverage its leadership in AVGC and digital public infrastructure to help establish fair, inclusive SCO-wide trade standards, while ensuring rising sectors like AVGC benefit MSMEs and creative entrepreneurs?
