The DARPG (Department of Administrative Reforms & Public Grievances) held a workshop titled “Cyber Swacchata” at the Civil Services Officers’ Institute (CSOI), New Delhi. The event focused on strengthening cyber awareness and resilience across e-Governance systems, particularly for initiatives like e-Office, Bhavishya, and CPGRAMS. The workshop was aligned with the Cyber Swachhta Kendra initiative under CERT-In (Computer Emergency Response Team – India).
Speakers highlighted topics such as cyber hygiene, account deactivation policies, application security, and data integrity in bureaucratic workflows. Special emphasis was placed on encouraging departments to adopt best practices for password security, avoid proliferation of redundant files, and incorporate digital signatures in file management—a push to make public administration more secure and trustworthy.
This workshop strengthens the foundation of secure digital governance at the center of India’s public service delivery. As more government functions shift online, ensuring cyber resilience, data integrity, and system hygiene becomes essential to maintain public trust and safeguard citizen data. The event also helps equip administrators with practical measures to protect against cyber threats across diverse government applications, thereby reducing risks of leaks, intrusions, or system failures.
What is “Cyber Swacchata”?
It’s a government initiative under which systems, software, and digital practices are audited, cleaned, and continuously monitored to prevent malware, vulnerabilities, and misuse in public sector digital infrastructure.
Relevant Question for Policy Stakeholders
How can central ministries and state governments institutionalise cyber hygiene norms and oversight mechanisms across all e-governance platforms to maintain continuous vigilance and secure public operations?
