Institutions: Ministry of Communications
The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) marked a crucial strategic milestone by holding the inaugural session of the Bharat 6G Alliance (B6GA) on the sidelines of the India Mobile Congress 2025. This launch formally institutionalizes India’s ambitious vision to become a 6G pioneer and a global technology leader, steering the national roadmap for next-generation communications. The B6GA sets the core narrative for an ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’ (Self-Reliant India) in the 6G era. To accelerate the Alliance’s collaborative research and indigenous development goals, the government underscored its commitment to key policy mechanisms, including the ongoing Technology Development Fund and the forthcoming Research, Development and Innovation (RDI) Scheme, which will serve as primary enablers for indigenous R&D and manufacturing. The initiative emphasizes a multi-stakeholder model involving top policymakers, public sector units, industry leaders, and academia.
This event underscores India’s strategic policy shift towards achieving global technology leadership through collaboration, indigenous R&D investment (via new RDI schemes), and targeted industry alliances, making digital communication the backbone for building a ‘Viksit Bharat’ (Developed India).
Relevant Question for Policy Stakeholders: How will the Bharat 6G Alliance ensure R&D investments translate into scalable, commercially viable, and equitable indigenous technology deployment across India?
