SDG 7: Affordable and Clean Energy | SDG 13: Climate Action
Institutions: Ministry of Power | Ministry of New and Renewable Energy
India and Australia held the 5th Meeting of the India-Australia Energy Dialogue in New Delhi on October 16, 2025. The Indian delegation comprised senior officials from the Ministries of Housing & Urban Affairs, Power, New and Renewable Energy, Petroleum and Natural Gas, Mines, and Coal.
Discussions centered on the global transition to net-zero emissions, emphasizing practical cooperation in energy efficiency and recognizing the critical role of green hydrogen and enabling technologies. Both nations reaffirmed their commitment to being reliable and trusted trading partners for energy resources and advancing secure, robust, and sustainable energy systems in the Indo-Pacific region.
A significant outcome of the engagement was the launch of the India-Australia Green Hydrogen Taskforce report. This report provides a solid foundation and clear direction for future collaboration in the critical Green Hydrogen sector. Both sides also committed to decisions to boost cooperation in manufacturing and technology sharing within the clean energy sector, reaffirming their role as reliable partners in advancing secure, robust, and sustainable energy systems across the Indo-Pacific region.
What is the meaning of a country achieving net-zero emissions? β Net-zero emissions refers to the state where the amount of greenhouse gases entering the atmosphere is balanced by the amount being removed. For a country, this means achieving equilibrium between its industrial emissions and the carbon absorption of its forests or through technological means like carbon capture. This global goal is pursued through large-scale renewable energy deployment and policy changes to mitigate climate change.
Relevant Question for Policy Stakeholders: What specific joint investment funds or R&D targets will India and Australia establish to scale green hydrogen technology across the Indo-Pacific region?
