Haryana Signs MoU with Honda for Waste Management, Invites Japanese Firms to Invest
SDG 9: Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure | SDG 12: Responsible Consumption and Production
Institutions: Government of Haryana
On 28 September 2025, Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini met representatives of leading Japanese companies in Gurugram, urging them to scale up investments in the state. An MoU with Honda was signed for a Construction & Demolition (C&D) Waste Management plant, under which Honda will convert waste into tiles, with the state providing land and raw material.
The Chief Minister announced plans for a Japanese companies’ cluster in Narayangarh, citing its strategic location near Chandigarh, UP, Uttarakhand, and Punjab. He also outlined major infrastructure commitments, including a ₹3,000 crore pipeline from the Munak Canal to ensure long-term water supply to Manesar and a ₹78 crore industrial water recycling system by HSIIDC. Saini highlighted Haryana’s growing industrial ecosystem: 10 new Industrial Model Townships (IMTs), 6,000–7,000 acres registered on the e-Bhoomi portal, and plans for a 500 MW Green Energy Plant.
The CM further urged industries to use CSR funds for social projects, including Model Sanskriti Schools, road adoption, beautification works, and hospital language courses. He also announced the rollout of advanced fire brigade systems in Gurugram, Faridabad, and Sonipat.
Haryana is positioning itself as a preferred Japanese investment hub, aligning waste management, green energy, and industrial infrastructure with global sustainability goals. The Honda MoU is notable as a circular economy pilot, while commitments on water security and IMTs reflect the state’s long-term industrial planning.
What is C&D Waste Management?
→ The process of recycling construction and demolition waste (e.g., concrete, bricks, tiles) into reusable products, reducing landfill use and enabling circular economy models in urban infrastructure.
Relevant Question for Policy Stakeholders:
How can Haryana’s Japanese investment push and C&D waste recycling pilot shape India’s broader model of sustainable industrial growth while ensuring long-term water and energy security?
