Government-Backed IICT–FICCI–Netflix Alliance Builds Pipeline for India’s Next-Gen Creative Workforce
SDG 8: Decent Work & Economic Growth | SDG 9: Industry, Innovation & Infrastructure | SDG 4: Quality Education
Institutions: Ministry of Information & Broadcasting | Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce & Industry (FICCI)
At the 25th edition of FICCI Frames 2025 in Mumbai, the Indian Institute of Creative Technology (IICT), FICCI, and Netflix India signed a landmark Memorandum of Understanding to strengthen India’s AVGC-XR (Animation, Visual Effects, Gaming, Comics & Extended Reality) ecosystem. The partnership combines IICT’s academic and R&D expertise, FICCI’s industry network, and Netflix’s creative capabilities to train and mentor emerging creators.
Under the collaboration, IICT will design industry-aligned curricula and host workshops, masterclasses, and guest lectures led by global professionals. Netflix will contribute to IICT’s R&D, Academic, and Industry Development Councils, while its Fund for Creative Equity will provide scholarships to under-represented students in the media and entertainment sector. The initiative seeks to bridge academia and industry, give students hands-on learning, and elevate India’s creative-technology workforce for global competitiveness.
This collaboration advances the government’s focus on building a creative-economy innovation pipeline, aligning with the National AVGC-XR Mission and India’s broader Digital India and Skill India goals. It creates a pathway for industry-ready, inclusive creative talent.
What is AVGC-XR?
The AVGC-XR sector encompasses Animation, Visual Effects, Gaming, Comics, and Extended Reality industries. It represents India’s fastest-growing creative domain, blending art, technology, and storytelling, with major potential for exports and digital employment.
Relevant Question for Policy Stakeholders:
How can India sustain and scale such academia–industry partnerships to transform its AVGC-XR sector into a global creative-export hub while ensuring equitable access for under-represented talent?
