First BrahMos Missiles Produced in Lucknow Mark Milestone for India’s Defence Manufacturing
SDG 9: Industry, Innovation & Infrastructure | SDG 16: Peace, Justice & Strong Institutions

India has achieved a key milestone in defence self-reliance with the first batch of BrahMos missiles manufactured at the BrahMos Integration & Testing Facility Centre in Lucknow under the Uttar Pradesh Defence Industrial Corridor. The 200-acre, ₹380 crore facility, operational within five months of its May 2025 inauguration, will produce about 100 missile systems annually, contributing to both national security and industrial growth.
The Lucknow unit is the first in the corridor to manage complete missile assembly, integration, and testing indigenously, strengthening India’s defence supply chain and export capacity. Export contracts worth ₹4,000 crore have been signed with two countries, and from FY 2026, the unit is projected to generate ₹3,000 crore in turnover and ₹500 crore in GST revenue. The project has created employment for over 15,000 youth across six corridor nodes.
Officials emphasised that the BrahMos now embodies India’s growing technological autonomy, combining a traditional warhead with advanced guidance and supersonic precision. The facility also integrates MSMEs into component manufacturing, ensuring critical technologies, from ramjet engines to advanced seekers, are developed within India.
The Lucknow facility demonstrates Aatmanirbhar Bharat in action, linking national security with industrialisation, exports, and job creation. It strengthens India’s strategic autonomy, widens the defence manufacturing base, and positions the state as a node of innovation and revenue generation.
What is BrahMos? → A supersonic cruise missile jointly developed by India and Russia, capable of precise strikes on land and sea targets, forming a key pillar of India’s deterrence and export-ready arsenal.
