SDG 5: Gender Equality | SDG 8: Decent Work & Economic Growth
Institutions: Ministry of Statistics & Programme Implementation
The National Statistics Office (NSO), under the Ministry of Statistics & Programme Implementation (MoSPI), is organizing a Data Userβs Conference on the Time Use Survey (TUS) 2024 on 22 September 2025 in Thiruvananthapuram. The conference to be held in collaboration with the Centre for Development Studies (CDS), Kerala will convene about 175 participants including researchers, policymakers, statisticians, and civil society representatives. It aims to deepen engagement between data producers and users, and highlight how TUS data can inform policies on gender, care work, employment, and evolving socio-economic patterns. The TUS 2024 builds on the earlier 2019 round, allowing comparative analysis of changing time use patterns, especially in the digital era.
Better understanding of how people (especially women) allocate time across paid, unpaid, care, learning, and leisure activities can guide more equitable policy design in social welfare, labour laws, and care economy interventions.
Relevant Question for Policy Stakeholders: How can policymakers integrate insights from TUS 2024 into scheme design for care infrastructure, workβlife balance, and gender-equitable labour regulations?
