Eurobarometer Survey Signals Public Demand for Stronger EU Role in Crisis Protection

The latest Eurobarometer released by the European Parliament reveals that 68 percent of EU citizens expect the Union to play a greater role in protecting them from international crises and security threats. A remarkable 90 percent call for deeper unity among Member States, while 77 percent believe the EU requires more capacity to address rapidly shifting global challenges. Citizens prioritize defence and security (37 percent) and competitiveness, economy and industry (32 percent) as the Unionβs key future focus areas. Nearly four in five respondents advocate for a rise in EU-level investment, and 91 percent say the European Parliament should be well-informed and empowered to oversee EU spending. Most EU citizens see EU membership as beneficial; especially for its role in ensuring peace, economic stability, and cooperative governance.
