Chandigarh University Campus Tank Launch to Build India’s “Start-Up Linked Economy”
SDG 9: Industry, Innovation & Infrastructure | SDG 5: Gender Equality
Institutions: Ministry of Science & Technology | Ministry of Education
Union Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh today launched the Campus Tank initiative at Chandigarh University, envisioned as a catalyzer for a “start-up linked economy.” The platform seeks to bridge the gap between academic innovation and industry by fostering partnerships across sectors like agri-tech, biotech, and ocean resources. Emphasizing that India’s next wave of growth lies beyond IT, the Minister highlighted that sustainable startups must be anchored in structured industry collaboration to ensure financial support, market relevance, and scale. He also noted key milestones: India’s jump from 81 to 39 in the Global Innovation Index in under a decade, and the fact that nearly 60% of registered startups are women-led.
Relevant question for policy stakeholders: How can Campus Tank and similar platforms be scaled across universities nationwide to ensure regionally inclusive, women-inclusive innovation ecosystems that translate research into commercially viable and impactful solutions?
