BEE Adds ‘Content Creators & Influencers’ Category in National Energy Conservation Awards 2025
SDG 7: Affordable and Clean Energy | SDG 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities
Institutions: Ministry of Power
The Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE) has introduced a new category - “Content Creators & Influencers” - for the National Energy Conservation Awards (NECA) 2025. This move is aimed at harnessing the reach of digital media to spread awareness about energy efficiency, conservation, and sustainable practices, in alignment with the Prime Minister’s Mission LiFE (Lifestyle for Environment). Contestants (with at least 10,000 followers) will create short videos (≤ 90 seconds) in Indian languages on themes such as “Save Energy at Home,” “Use 5-Star Appliances,” and “Green & Sustainable Building.” Winners will be felicitated at the NECA awards ceremony on 14 December 2025.
By formally recognizing creators and influencers under NECA, the government is bridging the gap between policy and public awareness. This aligns energy conservation goals with social media engagement, potentially accelerating behavioral change among households and communities. It’s a novel nudging strategy within climate-energy policy to catalyze grassroots impact.
Relevant Question for Policy Stakeholders:
How should BEE and the Ministry of Power design incentive structures, monitoring mechanisms, and content quality safeguards to ensure that this new category translates into meaningful behavior change rather than superficial campaigns?
