Union Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh has inaugurated the Centre of Excellence for Artificial Intelligence, Skill Development, and Innovation at Graphic Era (Deemed to be University), Dehradun, Uttarakhand. The centre, spread over 1.5 lakh sq. ft., includes Uttarakhand’s first NVIDIA AI-High-Performance Computing facility powered by an NVIDIA DGX B200 system with 8 GPUs and 1.74 TB GPU memory. Built at a cost of over ₹10 crore, the facility supports research and innovation in healthcare, agriculture, environment, smart cities, and advanced industries. Graphic Era University, ranked 48th in NIRF 2025 and accredited A+ by NAAC, is India’s first “Generative AI Ready Campus” powered by AWS. The Centre also features an Apple iOS Development Centre in partnership with Apple and Infosys. Dr. Singh emphasized ethical use of AI, warning against misuse such as deepfakes, and called for combining technology with human judgement through a hybrid model. He noted how AI-enabled telemedicine vans are already operating in rural India using such models.
This initiative illustrates how investment in AI infrastructure and skill development can strengthen India’s innovation ecosystem, especially in academic institutions. It also underscores the importance of ethics, accountability, and integrity in technology adoption-key to ensuring public trust and reducing risks like misinformation.
Relevant Question for Policy Stakeholders:
How can ethical AI frameworks be integrated into academic curricula and institutional research norms to ensure responsible innovation while scaling high-end infrastructure across Indian universities?
