The National Test House (NTH), Ghaziabad, provisionally approved as a DGCA-recognized Certification Body under the Drone Rules 2021 has begun awarding type certifications for Indian drones at an industry-low fee of βΉ4.2 lakh. As of early September 2025, over 50 applications from domestic manufacturers have been processed, and two models have already received DGCA certification. This initiative strengthens safety standards, supports competitive domestic drone manufacturing, and aligns with the Make-in-India and Aatmanirbhar Bharat vision.
Relevant question for policy stakeholders:
How can India replicate this model of affordable, trusted certification, across rapidly evolving tech domains like drones by reinforcing institutional capacity and integrating standardisation into national innovation policy?
