ADBβITC Launch Toolkit to Help Asia-Pacific SMEs Navigate Sustainability Standards
SDG 8: Decent Work and Economic Growth | SDG 12: Responsible Consumption and Production
Institutions: Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises | Ministry of Commerce and Industry
Asian Development Bank (ADB) and International Trade Centre (ITC) have jointly launched the SME Sustainability Standards Navigation Toolkit, a digital tool tailored for Asia-Pacific small and medium-sized enterprises. It raises awareness about sustainability standards, helps businesses evaluate their certification readiness, and offers step-by-step guidance for compliance. The toolkit especially targets textile and apparel SMEs, easing their entry into more sustainable production and unlocking access to green finance.
By demystifying Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) compliance, the toolkit supports SMEs in meeting regulatory requirements and enhancing eligibility for sustainable trade finance. It serves as a practical solution to bridge information and capacity gaps, enabling MSMEs to adopt environmentally sustainable practices in a cost-effective, accessible manner.
Relevant question for policy stakeholders: How can regional institutions and governments build on this toolkit by integrating it with national MSME support schemes, digital platforms, and trade promotion frameworks to enhance sustainability adoption across sectors?
