SDG 8: Decent Work and Economic Growth | SDG 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities
Institutions: Ministry of Finance | Government of Uttarakhand | Ministry of Tourism
The Government of India and Asian Development Bank signed a USD 126.42 million loan agreement to implement the Sustainable, Inclusive, and Climate-Resilient Tourism Development at Tehri Lake Area Project in Uttarakhand. The project aims to support the Tehri Garhwal district—especially its climate-vulnerable and economically disadvantaged areas—by improving tourism planning, strengthening infrastructure, sanitation and waste management, and enhancing disaster preparedness. Key interventions include nature-based solutions to mitigate landslide and flood risks, universal design for accessibility, women- and youth-led tourism and enterprises, and a women-led disaster risk management initiative in pilot villages.
Relevant question for policy stakeholders: How can the Uttarakhand model ensure that tourism-led development delivers climate resilience, inclusion (especially for women and youth), and equitable local livelihoods?
