SDG 4: Quality Education | SDG 9: Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure
Institutions: Ministry of Education | NITI Aayog
The Ministry of Education, in collaboration with the Atal Innovation Mission (AIM), NITI Aayog, and AICTE (All India Council for Technical Education), has launched the Viksit Bharat Buildathon 2025, a nationwide drive to promote innovation at the school level. The initiative will invite students across India to ideate and build prototypes under themes such as Vocal for Local, Atmanirbhar Bharat, Swadeshi, and Samriddhi. Registration will remain open from 23 September to 6 October, followed by synchronized innovation events in mid-October and final evaluations through the end of 2025. Over 1,000 winners will be felicitated in January 2026.
The Buildathon is designed to strengthen hands-on problem-solving, experiential learning, and innovation capacity in schools, aligning with Indiaβs broader push toward a knowledge-driven economy. For policy makers, scaling such initiatives will be critical to ensure inclusive participation across states, embed innovation into curricula, and nurture early-stage talent that feeds into Indiaβs higher education and startup ecosystem.
Relevant Question for Policy Stakeholders:
How can this large-scale school innovation movement ensure access and quality in underserved regions (rural, remote, resource-poor schools) so that innovation capacity is inclusive across India?
