The 5th Meeting of the Central Advisory Council (CAC), constituted under the Real Estate (Regulation and Development) Act, 2016, was held in New Delhi. Union Minister of Housing and Urban Affairs, Shri Manohar Lal, launched the Unified RERA Portal (rera.mohua.gov.in), designed to integrate State RERA websites, enhance transparency, and create a nationwide database of real estate projects. This initiative aims to empower homebuyers with informed decision-making and support data-driven policymaking.
The Council noted that 35 States/UTs have established RERAs, 29 have Appellate Tribunals, and over 1.5 lakh projects are registered. More than 1.47 lakh complaints have been disposed of, reflecting significant progress since RERAβs inception. Key deliberations focused on stalled projects, faster grievance redressal, uniformity in implementation, curbing misleading advertisements, and ensuring compliance with orders. Recommendations included Standard Operating Processes for enforcement, measures to revive stalled projects, and a review of next-generation reforms for RERA.
The meeting concluded with a call for States/UTs to implement RERA in letter and spirit to protect homebuyers and strengthen accountability.
Relevant question for policy stakeholders: How can data from the Unified RERA Portal be leveraged to anticipate project delays and design policy interventions for stalled projects?
