UNIDO Enables Municipality-Led Green Industrial Recovery in Ukraine with €2.4 Million German Support
SDG 9: Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure
SDG 13: Climate Action
Institutions: Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change; Ministry of Commerce and Industry
At the Ukraine Recovery Conference 2025, UNIDO and the Government of Ukraine signed an agreement launching the next phase of the “Green industrial recovery through municipality-based development” project, with funding of €2.4 million from the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development. This initiative aims to reinforce the capacity of Ukraine’s municipalities to drive green industrial recovery by enhancing institutional readiness, supporting innovation, and aligning local development efforts with EU environmental and industrial norms.
The project builds upon prior achievements, including the creation of a “National Guiding Framework for Standards and Technical Regulations for Green Reconstruction” and the establishment of a network of Regional Development Coordinators. The new phase emphasizes bolstering capabilities at both national and municipal levels, advancing technical standards, facilitating innovation and knowledge exchange, and promoting partnerships between Ukrainian and European municipalities. The project will also work with the UN Environment Programme under the Carpathian Convention to support sustainable development in the Carpathian region.
Relevant question for policy stakeholders: How can India adapt a municipality-based green industrial recovery framework - emphasizing local institutional capacity, innovation, and alignment with international standards - to drive resilient regional industrial development, especially in post-disaster or transition contexts?
