Institutions: Ministry of Railways | Government of Bihar
On 29 September 2025, Union Railway Minister along with Bihar Deputy CM, flagged off seven new train services for Bihar, including three Amrit Bharat Express and four passenger trains.
This expands Amrit Bharat services out of Bihar to 26 services (out of 30 nationwide) and further connects the state to Telangana, Rajasthan, and Delhi.
The newly launched passenger routes include Patna–Buxar, Jhajha–Danapur, Patna–Islampur, and Nawada–Patna via Barbigha, covering underserved local areas.
Since 2014, key infrastructure projects-like the Patna and Munger rail-cum-road bridges and multiple new/doubled lines-have been fully commissioned in Bihar, underlining the state’s rising railway investments.
These additions strengthen both inter-state and intra-state rail connectivity in Bihar, which is essential for economic growth, mobility, and access to services. Upgrading train services to modern standards (Amrit Bharat) also signals commitment to passenger comfort and faster travel, supporting urbanisation and regional development goals.
What is Amrit Bharat Express? → A premium class of train service designed with modern features (semi-automatic couplers, fire detection, sealed gangways, talk-back units), aiming to improve speed, safety and travel experience in non-AC coaches too.
Relevant Question for Policy Stakeholders:
How can railway planning ensure that expansion in services is matched by capacity (tracks, stations, maintenance) and operational reliability, especially for new routes emerging in Bihar’s semi-rural and rural areas?
