Prime Minister has inaugurated the 9th India Mobile Congress (IMC) 2025 in New Delhi, celebrating the nation’s technological transformation from a consumer to a global digital architect under the Aatmanirbhar Bharat vision. The PM highlighted key achievements, including a six-fold increase in electronics production and the success of the Made-in-India 4G stack, which is now export-ready and supports the ‘India 6G Vision 2030’.
India’s 6G ambitions are projected to contribute $1.2 trillion to the GDP by 2035 and aim for 10% of global 6G patents. The event, themed “Innovate to Transform,” saw the Bharat 6G Alliance sign MoUs with NASSCOM and the European Space Agency for joint technology development, releasing four whitepapers on 6G architecture and spectrum.
The focus on indigenous 4G/6G technology and the Production-Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme strengthens India’s push for digital sovereignty and manufacturing. The explicit targets for 6G patent share and GDP contribution mark a decisive shift in policy to co-lead global technology standards and secure a leadership position in future telecom infrastructure.
Relevant Question for Policy Stakeholders: Beyond achieving PLI targets, what strategic fiscal and regulatory mechanisms are required to ensure 6G-related indigenous R&D effectively translates into India securing 10% of global 6G patents by 2035?
