SDG 2: Zero Hunger
Institutions: Ministry of Agriculture & Farmers Welfare; Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change
The report projects a 14 percent increase in global agricultural and fish production by 2034, driven primarily by productivity gains in middle-income countries. Rising consumption of animal-source foods is expected, especially among affluent and urbanizing populations in these regions. Despite the production growth, real international commodity prices are projected to decline medium-term, exerting pressure on smallholders who must enhance productivity to remain competitive.
Scenario modeling indicates that eliminating undernourishment globally by 2034 can be achieved alongside a 7 percent reduction in greenhouse gas emissions - provided that substantial investments in emission-reduction technologies are paired with a 15 percent increase in agricultural productivity.
The outlook underscores the importance of productivity-enhancing interventions and sustainable practices to support food security, climate mitigation, and equitable development.
