The National Statistics Office (NSO), released its inaugural Quarterly Bulletin of Unincorporated Sector Enterprises (QBUSE), offering high-frequency estimates based on the Annual Survey framework. The report shows that the number of such enterprises rose from 7.85 crore in January–March 2025 to 7.94 crore in April–June, while employment in the sector crossed the 13-crore mark at 13.13 crore in the first quarter before slightly easing to 12.86 crore. These levels exceed all previous annual tallies. Notably, the share of working owners increased from 58.3 percent to 60.2 percent, highlighting a shift toward entrepreneurial self-employment. Internet usage among these establishments also increased, rising from 34.2 percent to 36 percent quarter-on-quarter.
QBUSE is a MoSPI statistical series that provides quarterly estimates on size, employment, and characteristics of India’s informal, non-agricultural enterprises.
