The Union Home Minister inaugurated the second National Conference of the Anti-Narcotics Task Force (ANTF) in New Delhi, launched a nationwide Online Drug Disposal Campaign, and released the NCB Annual Report 2024. On the same day, 1,37,917 kg of seized narcotics worth βΉ4,800 crore were destroyed at 11 locations across India. The report outlines national enforcement trends and serves as a key accountability document for Indiaβs narcotics control efforts.
The move underscores a shift toward more visible enforcement, disposal transparency, and demand reduction strategies, complemented by efforts to map supply chains, deploy tech (darknet analytics, cryptocurrency tracking, metadata analysis), and expand interagency coordination. States have been urged to prepare standard operating procedures (SOPs), convene district-level coordination via NCORD (National Narcotics Coordination Portal) meetings, and systematize 360Β° investigations involving financial trails and cyber forensics.
The release of the NCB Annual Report 2024 alongside visible disposal drives signals a dual focus on accountability and enforcement. It positions narcotics control as both a public health and governance challenge, requiring technology investments, financial scrutiny, and multi-level institutional coordination.
Relevant Question for Policy Stakeholders:
How can the insights from the NCB Annual Report 2024 be operationalized into preventive, health-oriented, and systemic strategies at the state and district levels to complement enforcement?
