The July 2025 edition of the Periodic Labour Force Survey (PLFS) Monthly Bulletin, released by the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation, presents India's latest labour market statistics. The Labour Force Participation Rate (LFPR) at the national level stood at 54.9%, with rural LFPR at 56.9% and urban areas at 50.7%. Male participation was notably higher than female participation across rural and urban areas. The Worker Population Ratio (WPR) for persons aged 15 years and above was 52.0%, with rural WPR at 54.4% and urban WPR at 47.0%.
The survey recorded an improvement in employment conditions, with Indiaβs unemployment rate declining to 5.2% in July 2025 from 5.6% in June. Rural female participation showed noteworthy growth, reflecting increased inclusivity in the workforce. The revamped PLFS design, implemented from January 2025, allows for monthly high-frequency labour indicators with broader rural and urban coverage, enhancing the granularity and timeliness of labour market data.
A total of 89,505 households across 7,519 First Stage Units were surveyed in July 2025, employing a rotational panel design wherein each household is visited four times. The bulletin provides critical insights to policymakers, civil services aspirants, and academicians on evolving employment trends and labour market dynamics.
