Institution: Ministry of Education
The Ministry of Education has released the UDISE+ 2024–25 report, presenting key indicators of India’s school education system. A milestone has been recorded as the total teacher strength has crossed one crore for the first time since UDISE+ began. This represents a 6.7 percent increase compared to 2022–23, underscoring continued investment in expanding teaching capacity.
Pupil–teacher ratios have improved across all levels, now standing at 10 at the foundational stage, 13 at the preparatory stage, 17 at the middle stage, and 21 at the secondary stage. These figures are well below the National Education Policy’s recommended benchmark of 1:30, reflecting improved teacher availability and potential for enhanced individual attention.
Student retention also shows progress. Dropout rates have fallen from 3.7 to 2.3 percent at the preparatory level, from 5.2 to 3.5 percent at the middle level, and from 10.9 to 8.2 percent at the secondary level. Together, these trends point toward a system with greater continuity, stronger human resource capacity, and improved prospects for equitable learning outcomes.
