Ministry of Education and Women & Child Development Launch Guidelines for Co-location of Anganwadi Centres with Schools
SDG 4: Quality Education | SDG 5: Gender Equality
Institutions: Ministry of Education | Ministry of Women & Child Development
The Ministries of Education and Women & Child Development jointly launched new national guidelines to co-locate Anganwadi Centres within school premises. The initiative aims to ensure seamless foundational learning transitions by integrating early-childhood care with formal primary education, improving coordination between Anganwadi and school staff, promoting community participation, and optimizing infrastructure use. The rollout will include broadband connectivity for nearly 200,000 government and private high schools over the next three years to enhance access and support AI-based, multilingual teaching in Indian languages. The move also includes a proposal for a dedicated learning module to upskill Anganwadi workers, especially those who have not completed Class 12, reflecting efforts to strengthen the workforce supporting early childhood care and education. These measures build on the foundational vision of NEP 2020 and align NIPUN Bharat with βPoshan Bhi Padhai Bhi.β
Relevant Question for Policy Stakeholders: How can states operationalize co-location effectively while maintaining high quality ECCE delivery, integrating digital tools, and ensuring phased broadband infrastructure deployment within three years?
