The Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC) inaugurated Khadi Fest 2025 in Mumbai, celebrating the theme “Har Ghar Swadeshi, Ghar-Ghar Swadeshi.” The festival brings together products from 38 Khadi institutions, 41 PMEGP units, 4 SFURTI clusters, and 3 village industry units, highlighting the sector’s reach and diversity. Shoppers are being offered 20 % discounts on Khadi products and 10 % on village-industry goods to promote wider adoption.
During the event, KVIC Chairman Manoj Kumar noted that Khadi has transformed from a symbol of self-reliance to a pillar of rural entrepreneurship and sustainable livelihoods. Over the past decade, production has surged from ₹27,000 crore to ₹1.16 lakh crore, while sales have risen from ₹33,000 crore to ₹1.70 lakh crore, driven by campaigns such as Vocal for Local, Make in India, and Har Ghar Swadeshi.
The festival demonstrates how India’s self-reliance framework is being translated into tangible livelihood gains. By linking artisans and micro-entrepreneurs to markets through initiatives like PMEGP and SFURTI, Khadi Fest strengthens both domestic value chains and consumer awareness. The surge in production and sales shows Khadi’s growing economic and cultural relevance, while incentives such as direct sales and discounts make sustainable consumption mainstream. Together, these trends position Khadi not merely as heritage craft but as a living driver of rural enterprise, inclusion, and sustainability.
What is Khadi Fest 2025?
An annual national exhibition organised by KVIC to promote Khadi and village-industry products, connecting artisans directly with consumers and expanding market linkages.
What are PMEGP and SFURTI? → The Prime Minister’s Employment Generation Programme (PMEGP) provides credit-linked subsidies to set up micro-enterprises in rural and urban areas. SFURTI (Scheme of Fund for Regeneration of Traditional Industries) supports artisan and village-industry clusters by improving skills, technology, and market access. Both are flagship schemes under the Ministry of MSME aimed at boosting self-employment and sustainable livelihoods.
