Institutions: Ministry of Jal Shakti | Ministry of Culture | Union Territory of Jammu & Kashmir
The Union Territory of Jammu & Kashmir reported progress on multiple development fronts on September 29th 2025.
In Srinagar, Mission Director Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM), Khurshid Ahmad Shah, reviewed water supply projects across all divisions, directing Chief Engineers to expedite schemes nearing completion and reaffirming the December 2025 deadline for universal household tap water connections. Efforts include GIS mapping of pipe networks, geo-tagging of assets, Har Ghar Jal certification, and strengthened water quality monitoring. The Ministry of Jal Shakti has assured financial and institutional support.
In Jammu, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha lauded the Yuva Shakti at the IGNCA-led Viksit Bharat Ke Rang–Kala Ke Sang workshop, urging youth to act as catalysts for innovation and cultural preservation. He stressed their responsibility in shaping a developed India under the Viksit Bharat 2047 vision.
At the district level, the DC Kishtwar approved 25 rent assessment cases for government offices, ensuring timely payments and safeguarding public properties.
Meanwhile, the JKRLM announced SARAS Kashmir Mela, scheduled for October 4–14 in Srinagar. The event will showcase over 150 rural women entrepreneurs from across India, offering handicrafts, handlooms, jewellery, and traditional foods, and linking self-help groups to national markets.
These initiatives highlight J&K’s integrated governance approach — from ensuring basic services (water) to youth empowerment, institutional accountability, and rural enterprise promotion. Together, they reinforce central missions like Har Ghar Jal, Skill India, and Self-Reliant India, while embedding J&K more closely in national development frameworks.
What is Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM)? → Launched in 2019, JJM aims to provide functional household tap connections to every rural home, ensuring reliable drinking water access and reducing health risks.
What is GIS Mapping? → Geographic Information System (GIS) mapping digitally plots pipelines and water assets, enabling precise planning, monitoring, and transparency in infrastructure roll-outs.
What is Har Ghar Jal Certification? → A formal process under JJM where a village declares and verifies that every household has tap water access, validated by local bodies and the mission authorities.
What is Viksit Bharat 2047 Vision? → A long-term national plan to transform India into a fully developed economy and society by its centenary of independence in 2047, focusing on growth, equity, sustainability, and innovation.
Relevant Question for Policy Stakeholders: How can J&K leverage the convergence of infrastructure expansion, youth mobilisation, and rural livelihood promotion to build a sustainable development model that addresses both service delivery gaps and employment needs in a fragile, post-conflict region?
