SDG 4: Quality Education | SDG 8: Decent Work & Economic Growth
Institution: Ministry of Tourism
The Federation of Hotel & Restaurant Associations of India (FHRAI) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Educational Testing Service (ETS) India to establish role-specific English communication benchmarks in the hospitality sector using the TOEIC Link assessment framework. This collaboration aims to elevate service quality by aligning workforce readiness with global standards across listening, reading, speaking, and writing in realistic hospitality scenarios.
The pilot phase will involve FHRAI-affiliated hotels and Institutes of Hotel Management (IHMs). Under ETS Indiaβs guidance, staff, final-year students, and new recruits will undergo TOEIC Link assessments to define minimum proficiency requirements for roles like front desk operations, housekeeping, and food and beverage service. A Train-the-Trainer model will be used to build institutional capacity and sustain the programme.
Relevant question for policy stakeholders:
How can these established communication benchmarks be integrated into national hospitality training systems, particularly under schemes run by the Ministry of Tourism and NSDC, to create scalable, measurable, and inclusive skilling outcomes across urban and underserved regions?
