SDG 4: Quality Education
SDG 9: Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure
Institution: Ministry of Education
Vietnam is undergoing a digital education transformation, driven by rapid economic growth, robust internet penetration, and rising demand for skilled professionals. With a population of approximately 101 million and strong digital foundations, the country is investing 14.4% of its national budget—around A$18.7 billion—in education. The digital economy expanded by 16% in 2024 to reach A$54.6 billion. The edtech sector itself is estimated at A$552.7 million, supported by 750 active companies offering online platforms and tools.
Half of all students in Vietnam now participate in online education, and half of higher education institutions offer partially or fully digital programs. The government aims to achieve a fully digitized education system integrated into national datasets by 2030. Cities such as Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh, Da Nang, and Can Tho are emerging as innovation hubs. The pressing demand for skills in areas like semiconductors, ICT, healthcare, and the green economy highlights opportunities for digital learning solutions tailored to industry needs.
For India, the trajectory seen in Vietnam underscores the potential impact of concerted investment and policy support in edtech—especially in pursuing digital access, enhancing workforce-ready skills, and seamlessly integrating education with technological advancement.
Relevant question for policy stakeholders: How might India design regulatory and financing models to ensure sustainable, inclusive edtech expansion at scale?
