Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE) Released State Energy Efficiency Index 2024
SDG 7: Affordable and Clean Energy | SDG 12: Responsible Consumption and Production
Institution: Ministry of Power
The Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE), under the Ministry of Power, has released the sixth State Energy Efficiency Index (SEEI) for FY 2023β24. The index evaluates 36 states and union territories through 66 indicators spanning buildings, industry, transport, agriculture, utilities, and cross-sector initiatives.
States are categorised as Front Runners, Achievers, Contenders, or Aspirants. Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Assam, and Tripura emerged as top performers in their respective groups. The rankings highlight steady progress in both large and smaller states on adopting energy efficiency practices.
Key achievements include 24 states notifying the Energy Conservation Building Code, 10 adopting MSME efficiency policies, and 31 implementing EV mobility strategies. All states have prepared State Energy Efficiency Action Plans, and 31 have established steering committees to guide energy transition governance. SEEI continues to function as a benchmarking tool to drive state-level improvement and support Indiaβs broader climate and net-zero commitments.
