The APEC Energy Overview 2025 captures energy trends across the 21 APEC economies through 2022. In 2022, APEC’s GDP (constant PPP) reached a record USD 87 trillion, while total primary energy supply (TPES) rose by 2.1% to 364 EJ, in line with its long-term growth trajectory. Renewables (solar, wind, biomass) grew over 6% in that year, comprising approximately 9% of TPES, though coal remained dominant at 35%, followed by oil (27%) and gas (23%). Final energy consumption surpassed 240 EJ in 2022, with the industrial sector driving over 30% of demand and non-energy uses expanding notably.
APEC reduced net energy imports by over 17% - a two-decade low. Progress toward APEC’s energy targets is visible: energy intensity fell 28% from its 2005 baseline (versus the 45% target by 2035), and modern renewables’ share in the energy mix increased, advancing toward the goal of doubling by 2030.
