14th Pension Adalat Resolves Hundreds of Long-Pending Super Senior & Family Pension Grievances
SDG 10: Reduced Inequalities | SDG 1: No Poverty
Institutions: Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances & Pensions
On 10 September 2025, Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi, hosted the 14th Pension Adalat under the Chairmanship of Dr. Jitendra Singh (MoS for Personnel, Public Grievances & Pensions). The Adalat addressed 894 long-pending grievances from super senior and family pensioners belonging to 21 departments/ministries-including Defence, Home Affairs, Finance, Railways, Housing & Urban Affairs, Civil Aviation. Of these, 652 grievances were resolved on the spot, marking a significant boost to efficiency and pensioner rights. Some individual redressals included:
An 84-year-old widow from Haryana whose dual family pension with arrears of ~βΉ7.37 lakh (from July 2021 to June 2025) was sanctioned.
A family pension case in Maharashtra with arrears of ~βΉ3.67 lakh for period Jan 2015βJul 2025.
Other resolved cases involved pension revisions, establishment of Pension Payment Orders, commencement of pensions, ex-gratia payments, and payments under OROP-II tables.
This Adalat demonstrates how multi-departmental grievance mechanisms can significantly reduce delays in pension justice, improving financial security for ageing citizens and widows. The ability to resolve large numbers of cases on the spot reduces administrative backlog and showcases what a coordinated, cross-ministry approach can achieve.
Relevant Question for Policy Stakeholders:
What institutional changes (e.g., digitised case tracking, standardised inter-departmental protocols, decentralised grievance redress) can ensure that such on-the-spot resolution becomes the norm rather than exception for pensioners across India?
